About me

Libraries function as an important institution within the community and it has been an honor and privilege for me to be able to serve in the public library sector for the last 10 years. I am currently enrolled in Syracuse University’s Library and Information Science program and have a projected graduation date of March 2020. Library school has been a beneficial and eye-opening experience for me and has helped me to develop a deeper understanding of library work.

Leading a library in today’s technological driven world is no small feat but I am confident that I am ready for such a task. I am devoted to the community that I serve and am passionate about library use, technology and empowering library users. I have dedicated a large portion of my professional career to learning and communicating new technologies to patrons because of how important technological literacy is today. Though I hold technological literacy to a high esteem, I still find importance in information literacy roots and a good old-fashioned book.

Education

My educational journey started right out of high school at Suffolk County Community College, I graduated in May 2012 with my Associate in Science. At first, I did not intend on going back to school but with some encouragement from a friend I found myself enrolled at Stony Brook University in the Fall of 2014. While working full time I graduated cum laude in August 2017 from SBU. Having been inspired by being in an academic environment it was only logical that graduate studies were next. I enrolled in Syracuse University's Master of Science in Library and Information Science in the Fall of 2018 and have a projected graduation date of March 2020.

Employment

The Mattituck-Laurel Library has been my home since 2008 and has allowed me to explore many different avenues of library work. Currently I can be found either behind the Circulation Desk or the Reference Desk. Once a week I relocate to the library's Local History Room where I host a one on one technology tutoring program. I assist patrons of all ages and abilities who have questions about their devices.
